Aquecimento global ou «aquecimento global»?
Numa coluna ontem publicada - ou será blogada - ontem no Tech Central Station a propósito das recentes conferências sobre o ambiente organizadas na Austrália, Alan Oxley, antigo embaixador australiano no GATT retrata alguns dos esforços (algo inglórios) para um debate realista e não ideológico deste tema.
Last week the post-Kyoto future was debated in Australia during three conferences. The British Government and the US-based Pew Centre supported conferences urging extension of the Kyoto model to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Energy companies backed the third conference which contrasted the strategy of development of low emission technologies favored by the Bush Administration and the Howard Government in Australia with the Kyoto-style model.
Science featured prominently in the discussions. For the first time in Australia, Australia's leading advocates of the Kyoto model were required to publicly defend the "official" UN science supporting Kyoto to their peers. They were not successful. Doubts about the UN science are increasing in Australia.
Claro que os «verdadeiros crentes» na fé ambientalista nunca serão afectados por estas pequenas falhas. A questão é, no entanto, que a grande maioria da população não é constituida por «verdadeiros crentes», apesar dos esforços dessa grande igreja que é o GreenPeace, bem como das diversas paróquias locais (nós temos a Quercus) e do apoio desinteressado de inúmeros ambientalistas «não praticantes» espalhados nas elites culturais e sociais do mundo ocidental.
